Sending your Tesla referral link so it actually works
Short answer
Send the link from the Tesla app, never the bare code. If your friend will buy in another country, send them the same code inside their store's link — the router or the checker on this site builds it. Ask them to open it before configuring, in their real browser.
Not an owner? This is the link for your store

Referral link: if you order through it, this site's owners may earn Tesla credits. Tesla applies any buyer benefit at checkout. Independent — not affiliated with Tesla, Inc.
1 · Find your link
Tesla's support page describes the route: open the Tesla app, tap the menu in the top-right corner, select “Refer and Earn”, tap “Refer Now”, and pick a contact to send the referral message (Tesla's Refer and Earn support page (effective Aug 24, 2024, updated Feb 24, 2026; read Jun 15, 2026)). The message carries your full link. If you want the link itself — to paste into an email, say — share it from the same screen to yourself first.
2 · Send the link, not the code
A friend can't type your code anywhere: Tesla's order flow has no field for it. The code only works as the last part of a link. Sending “use my code” plus a code costs you the referral and them the benefit.
3 · A friend in another country gets their own store's link
Your app link points at your store. A friend in Germany who opens a US link lands in the US store, in dollars. Tesla's terms make the program “conditional on and subject to the local laws and regulations of the registration address of the referrer and buyer” (Tesla's Refer and Earn support page (effective Aug 24, 2024, updated Feb 24, 2026; read Jun 15, 2026)) — so the friend should order in their own country's store, with your code. Paste your link into the checker with their country picked in the router, or simply send them to this site: the router detects their store on their device.
One honest caveat: we know of no Tesla page that spells out cross-border referrals between every pair of stores. What we can show is that Tesla's referral pages work per store with the same code format; whether a benefit applies is decided by Tesla on that store's page, which your friend sees before ordering.
4 · Make sure they open it properly
Open it in their real browser
Not inside WhatsApp, Instagram or Messenger — or order in that same in-app window.
Signed in to their own Tesla account
The account that will own the car. A referral can't be used twice by one account.
Before configuring
A referral can't be added once the order is placed.
5 · What you get, and Tesla's limits
After your friend orders, the benefit shows as “pending” in your Tesla app until the grant date, and referrer credits expire 12 months after that date. You can refer up to 10 orders per calendar year; after that, Tesla's FAQ says buyers using your link “will not receive any buyer benefits” — so once you're capped, stop sending it, or your friends lose out. In the US, Tesla's terms exclude residents of Ohio and Virginia from referrer benefits (they can still get buyer and loyalty benefits).
Tesla's terms (US, UK and Australia) say: “paid advertising, selling or paying or offering incentives for use of referral links is not appropriate, and we will not honor referral links associated with behavior that violates these Terms and Conditions.” Sharing with friends and family is what the program is for. Buying ads for your link, or paying people to use it, risks the referral not being honored.
