Short answer
Most failures come down to timing (the order existed before the link was opened), place (another country's store, or an in-app browser) or eligibility (not a first Tesla, a used car, or the owner's link is used up). Find your case below. If you haven't ordered yet, you can still fix all of them.
Referral link: if you order through it, this site's owners may earn Tesla credits. Tesla applies any buyer benefit at checkout. Independent — not affiliated with Tesla, Inc.
The ten cases
You placed the order before opening the link
What you see
Your order shows no referral, and there's nowhere to add one.
Nothing on the order you have. Tesla's support pages describe no way to attach a referral afterwards, and we won't promise that asking will work. If you cancel and reorder, cancellation terms and any deposit rules of your store apply — read them before deciding, because that is a much bigger decision than a referral.
The page says “Referral limit has been reached”
What you see
Tesla's referral page opens with “[Name]'s Referral Limit Has Been Reached” and no benefit cards (we saw this on US pages on Sep 10 and Oct 3, 2026).
Don't order through that link. Use a different owner's link — including the one on this site — and check the page shows benefit cards before you configure. This is also what a site means when it says its “offer has ended”: that owner's link is used up, not Tesla's program.
The link opened another country's store
What you see
Prices in a currency that isn't yours, a different benefit, or delivery locations in the wrong country.
Why
The store segment in the link (for example /en_gb/) picks the country. A link made for a friend abroad keeps their store.
What you can still do
Use the same code in your store's link — paste the link into the checker and it gives you the corrected version, or pick your store in the router. Not sure which store is yours? Buying in another country.
You opened it inside Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook or another app
What you see
You opened the link, later ordered from Safari or Chrome (or the Tesla app), and the order has no referral.
Why
In-app browsers keep their own cookies and session. Opening the link there and ordering somewhere else means the order never saw the link.
What you can still do
Before you order, copy the link, open it in the browser you'll order in, and do the whole order there.
You were signed in to a different Tesla account
What you see
The referral appears missing, or the order sits on another account (a partner's, an old email).
Why
Tesla's terms tie the referral to the Tesla Account that orders: a link “cannot be used by the same Tesla Account more than once”, and buyer benefits are for an account's first qualifying product.
What you can still do
Sign in with the account that will own the car before opening the link and ordering.
It isn't your first Tesla (or you have Tesla solar or Powerwall)
What you see
No buyer benefit, even though the link opened fine.
Existing owners can get Tesla's separate loyalty benefits through the Tesla app; a referral link won't add anything.
The car you're ordering isn't part of the program in that store
What you see
The referral page shows cards for some models only, or none for the one you want.
Why
Tesla decides per store. Its pages showed: US — Model Y, Model 3, Cybertruck (Premium AWD and Cyberbeast) (seen Oct 2, 2026); UK and Germany — Model Y and Model 3 only. Tesla's US terms also say Cybertruck Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive “is eligible for loyalty benefits only”. Model S and Model X were not on any referral page we read in September–October 2026.
What you can still do
Check the referral page for your store: if your model has no card, no buyer benefit applies to it there.
New inventory cars do qualify: open the referral link first, then use “Explore Inventory” on that same page.
You only have a code, not a link
What you see
There's no box to paste it into at checkout.
Why
Tesla's order flow has no code field. The referral attaches only by opening the link.
What you can still do
Paste the code into the checker — it turns it into a link for your store — or use the router.
A Tesla advisor placed or changed the order for you
What you see
The referral you opened earlier isn't on the order.
Why
The referral rides on the browser session that opened the link. An order keyed in by someone else, in another session, never saw it.
What you can still do
Open the link yourself and place the order online from that same window. We can't tell you what an advisor is able to add afterwards — ask before the order is placed, not after.
iWe can't see inside Tesla's systems, and we don't promise that Tesla support will add or restore a referral. Everything above is from Tesla's own support page and terms (effective Aug 24, 2024, updated Feb 24, 2026) or from what Tesla's referral pages showed on the dates given.
The order that works
Text version: 1) open the referral link before configuring anything; 2) check the store is the country and currency you'll pay in; 3) configure and order in the same browser and Tesla account; 4) Tesla applies any buyer benefit itself — there is no code to type; 5) check the referral shows in the order.
Before you order: a 20-second check
The referral page shows the owner's name and benefit cards — not “limit has been reached”.
The store matches the country you'll register the car in (currency is the giveaway).
You're in your real browser, signed in to the account that will own the car.
You configure and order from that page, in that window.
