How to tell which country's Tesla store you're in — three signs

Short answer

Look at the address bar first: the segment after tesla.com/ is the store — none for the US, en_gb for the UK, de_de for Germany and so on. Then check the currency in the prices, and the language. All three should match the country where the car will be registered.

Sign 1 · The address

Tesla's store addresses have a fixed shape. A referral page is tesla.com/referral/CODE for the United States, and tesla.com/xx_yy/referral/CODE everywhere else, where xx is the language and yy the country: en_ca is English-language Canada, fr_be French-language Belgium, it_ch Italian-language Switzerland. The country half is the one that matters for your order; the language half only changes the words. Every store our router covers is listed on which store.

On a phone the address bar often shows only the domain. Tap it to see the full address.

Sign 2 · The currency

Prices appear once you open a model from the referral page. Dollars could be US, Canadian, Australian or New Zealand dollars — Tesla's Australian and New Zealand pages, for example, quote their benefit in their own dollars — so if you see “$”, go back to sign 1. Euros could be any of a dozen stores. Currency is the quickest “wrong store” alarm, not proof of the right one.

Sign 3 · The language and the benefit line

A German referral page says “Weiterempfehlung”; a Japanese one is in Japanese. The benefit line also differs by store: on the dates we checked, the US page offered 3 months of Full Self-Driving (Supervised), the UK page 650 free Supercharging miles, the German page 1,000 km of free Supercharging. If the benefit line describes a different country's offer, you're in that country's store.

In the wrong store?

Keep the code, change the store. Paste the link into the checker for the corrected version, or pick your store in the router. If you're ordering for a country you're not in right now, read buying in another country first.
